Area of Scientific Activity:

Two domains: basic research and applied scientific research. In basic domain my activity area is Psychobiology (cognitive neuroscience, psychophysiology, neuropsychology and chronobiology). In applied research, my domain are health sciences (sleep disorders, behavioral medicine), organizational psychology (human factors, shift work) and education (bullying, developmental disabilities, academic success).
Domain of specialization:

The research domain in which I have developed most of my works is in Clinical Psychology, especially sleep disorders. I have dedicated to them 20 years of my research work and published most of my articles about sleep and their implications in different areas.
Present research interests:

Biological rhythms, cognitive neurosciences, work ability and education.
Other skills/activities:

Neuropsychology and Experimental Psychology, especially learning theories. I am also a 4th graduate medical student at the Medicine Faculty of the University of Coimbra.

Supervising experience:

40 Master thesis concluded, from 1995 to 2009, 18 of them in the health sciences domain (clinical psychology, health psychology and public health - Faculty of Medicine of Coimbra University). 21 PhD thesis, one of them in Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University (in 2002), about effects of rapid time zone transitions on the activity-rest rhythm of civil aviation pilots. 10 PhD Thesis (with FCT grants) in course (in health sciences and psychology domains). 4 Postdoc students in the Aveiro University. Professor in several post graduated courses (University of Minho, Faculty of Medicine of Coimbra University, Faculty of Psychology of Coimbra University and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Braga).
